Dr.
Scott Kellerman's
Batwa hospital
As an outsider I at first met a
lot of hostility from the Batwa Pygmies who are all too used
to being exploited and photographed by well-wishers whom
they never see again afterwards.
I am myself very suspicious of charity work and therefore
always try to measure the effect of it in the eyes of the
people who are supposed to benefit from it. However, when I
experienced how even the most hostile Batwas opened up to me
when I used Dr. Scott Kellerman's local outreach person Levi
as my guide and interpreter I became deeply impressed with
his tireless work for the Batwas in his hospital and urge
the world to
give it all kinds of support.
I only had time to take a few photos from the hospital (on
this page), but was lucky to attend....
The Batwa festival
which Scott Kellerman organized in honor of his largest
donor for the hospital, Diane Stanton, who was coming with
all her co-workers from Texas to inaugurate a new wing of
the hospital. These photos from the festival may not have
general interest, but I include them here for all the people
who were present as well as their friends and relatives at
home in America who suffer from their long absences as
volunteers in the hospital, but can here - in the eyes of
the Batwas - see the real value of their sacrifices.
