I bicycled back and forth to Anna King’s shack in Alabama many times when I lived with Mary 35 miles away. With the newspaper on the walls it resembled the shacks described by Walker Evans in the 30’s. In the 80’s most shacks got sponge plates on the walls or were replaced by the far worse “projects” with humid concrete walls.
