Managua, Nicaragua 1997
Child lives in earth
quake ruins
I
had arrived in the night without knowing anyone in the totally
darkened Managua – only lightened up by burning tires and the light
from a few cars. Former Sandinistas and Contras ran around
with
sub-machine guns, so I was terribly afraid of attackers as I
fumbled
around to find a place to live in the ruins. But next morning the sun
was
shining and everything breathed peace and idyll in the ruins where
the
children lived and played. I was only there for one day, but it was a
day I
will never forget.
