HOPE AND DESPAIR
Description
Willie Williams always sat hunched up all day staring blankly at those who once gave him so much hope, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. His wife was lying in bed - sick and debilitated from hunger. They were lonesome and forsaken, forgotten by society in a world of emptiness only interrupted by the cheerless dripping of rain through the ceiling. In 1978 I saw them the last time when I came to give them the book on which the photo was used on the cover. This framed clock I saw in many homes in Georgia, but it has since disappeared along with the hope King and Kennedy inspired in the poor blacks. Waynesboro, GA September 1975
